The University of Jammu was established in 1969 by an act of the legislature of the State which effectively bifurcated respectively in the universities of Jammu and Kashmir of the University of Jammu and Kashmir past. It has been accredited by the national assessment and accreditation (NAAC) Council, Bangalore with a certificate of category "A".
